Good quality sleep is one of the requirements for proper brain development for our little ones. The first 6 months of their lives are crucial for developing good sleeping skills. So early on, we need to start training them proper sleeping skills.

We all know it’s not going to be easy as newborns usually sleep during the day and are awake during the night. The first 3 months will be horrible for us, sleepless nights, never-ending nappy change and hourly feeding. But we need them to learn to be settled during the night as we as parents need our good night’s sleep as well.

We have some tips that can help you get your baby sleep through the night. I have personally tried them and they’ve worked for my little one and have been grateful ever since. I do hope they will work on yours too.

  1. Clean and dress them up in their sleeping clothes.

This is just the same as we do to ourselves before going to sleep. We have to clean up the baby and dress them up in their comfortable sleeping clothes. Please make sure it’s appropriate with the weather, not too thick or thin.

  1. Feed them well.

Make a routine every night for the baby to be well fed before beginning to play their lullaby song to them. This will help them go to sleep easily as they are full and content.

  1. Set a timer for their nappy change.

I always make sure that I will change their nappy every 3-4hours for them not to feel wet in the middle of the night. Don’t wait for them to cry to let you know that they need to be changed.

  1. Dim lights in the room.

If the baby sleeps with you or in their own crib, make sure that you have your dim lights on. It will help them feel comfortable and in a relax mood thus helping them sleep. Bright lights won’t help as it will just keep them active and awake.

  1. Keep quiet.

Keep it quiet in the room. If the baby is fond of listening with lullabies to help them sleep then play it softly. If there are other people in the room that you need to speak to then do it in a whisper.

These are just a few tips that we can share with you making your little one settle through the night. But you need to know that each baby is different, parents need to learn and understand how and what can make them sleep easily. In time, with a few tips here and there and your own experience of caring for your little one, you will be an expert in making them close their eyes and getting their good night’s sleep.
