I think we’d all agree that the birth of child is a divine miracle, during the 9 months in the lead up to the baby’s arrival a women’s body goes through many physical transformations. Despite that every women will have their own unique experience there are many physical experiences that remain the same.

To help talk to us about what they are, and how you can best overcome any of these changes, and discomforts, we welcome our special guest Rachel Simpson

Rachel is a women’s health educator, a Physiotherapist, Nutritionist and health coach and natural fertility educator. Her obsession is teaching women how to take control of their health as she teaches women all the things we never learnt in health class- that being about periods, pregnancy and pelvic floor.

Today, Rachel is going to provide expert information and advice about the physical changes women experience during and after pregnancy.

 

We ask Rachel questions including:

  1.  What are some of the most common physical changes a women’s body goes through to make room for the growing baby?
  2. What are some of the musculoskeletal changes women experience during pregnancy and how do they affects posture and centre of gravity?
  3. What are some of the cardiovascular changes that can cause unpleasant symptoms?
  4. What is lumbar lordosis and is there a way to overcome the pain and discomfort it may give?
  5. How would a pregnant women’s centre of gravity shift affect her legs, in particular her knee joints and quadriceps?
  6. What is progesterone and how does it affect a women’s body during pregnancy?
  7. At what point during a women’s pregnancy is she most at risk of musculoskeletal injury?
  8. What are some safe exercises you can suggest during pregnancy?
  9. How should we monitor the level intensity?
  10. Is there any exercises a pregnant women should avoid?
