Recent Omnipoll research commissioned by Mayver’s found that one in two Australians feels confused about what is healthy.
To help parents navigate conflicting messaging around nutrition Susie Burrell, a leading dietician and mother of two have some tips for getting back to basics and giving kids quick, nutritious and easy foods after school.
Susie says kids are often ravenous after school and a good quality snack will keep them energised through after-school activities and hopefully, reduce nagging before dinner!
She says filling up on natural high-protein foods like nuts will help keep kids feel fuller for longer and help avoid poor quality snacks like chips, cakes and biscuits.
“For children who don’t have allergies, nuts are such an important part of a well-balanced diet. If your school has a nut ban after school is the perfect time to sneak a serve in. Nuts are rich in a myriad of nutrients, are great for heart health and provide little bodies plenty of energy.
One of her go-to snacks at the moment are Banana Nut Bites. These easy, tasty treats have no added sugar, lots of protein and fibre and keep the kids very happy!
Ingredients
2 mashed bananas
1 cup Mayver’s Protein+ Peanut Butter with Hemp seeds (Hemp provides additional protein and nutrients)
1 cup oats
Method
- Blitz together in a food processor
- Roll into balls and roll in coconut
- Put in the fridge for two hours to set
