Children will always be excited for Halloween, the dress ups, the decorations and of course the loads and loads of lollies that will fill up their goodie bags. As much as we’d like our children to be excited for a memorable night, because of the sugar overload, many parents just want the night over and done with. We dread the idea of them filling their bags with lollies that will develop into cavities and make them hyperactive. As concern parents, let’s start the trend of giving out better and healthier alternatives to trick or treaters on Halloween night.

Here are a few ideas you can start with.

Healthy Food Treats

        1. Mandarin Pumpkins

A very easy and healthy choice for a Halloween treat. Simply peel a tangerine and use a piece of celery as the pumpkin stem.

2. Popcorn Hands

Place popcorn inside clear disposable food gloves and instead of candy, you can use carrots (cut into triangle shapes) for the fingernails. I’m sure children would not say no to popcorn, plus they would really enjoy eating them coming from a plastic hand glove.

3. Fruit Skewers

You can use different kind of small or sliced fruits that can be put into skewers like grapes, sliced pineapples, apples, bananas, grapes, kiwis, peeled tangerines, and strawberries. Arrange them in a colorful way so that children will be enticed to take and eat.

        6. Frozen Yogurt Ghosts

The bananas should be peeled, sliced in half and insert a popsicle stick for the handle. Put them in the freezer for 1-2hours or overnight.  Once frozen, dip the entire banana into a container of Vanilla Greek yogurt and try to smooth it with a spoon. Use small chocolate chip for the eyes and freeze again.
