The new school year has started and your child may have a new teacher or may be starting high school, or perhaps your teen has a new English teacher this year. Whatever it may be, they will be spending the year with their teachers, working together and learning new skills with them. Building strong relationships with their teachers will help them enjoying time spent in the classroom, learning about the different subjects and staying motivated to study.

The truth is that teachers do care about their students. All of them. Their purpose is help students flourish and grow. Teachers have a different personality and teaching style but they share a common goal, educating. Here are a few ways for students to start building strong connections with their teachers:

Conversation:

Get to know your teachers. Teachers love getting to know their students. Be honest and share about yourself and your interests when doing activities in the classroom. You’ll be surprised as you may share some common interests.

Cooperation:

Work with your teachers. Help your teachers in the classroom, it could be as simple as helping distributing worksheets, or helping them with an internet-whiteboard connection issue, helping putting some rubbish in the bin or anything that will get you to work with your teachers.

Respect:

Establishing a mutual respectful relationship will help build a strong connection between the student and the teacher. You are already teaching your kids to be respectful in their daily lives so  it will be easy to apply the same rules to a classroom setting.

As a parent, having a conversation with your children to help them understand how they can build a positive relationship with their teachers will be a great way to support them to connect and interact with others. It is also an opportunity to remind your kids that although teachers care about them, it is not always easy to spend quality time with each one of their students, especially when they have 20 to 30 students at once in their classroom. But they genuinely care about their students. All of them.
