There is so much more to wellness than just going to the gym and eating well. Wellness is how you feel, how you view yourself and your mental health. In fact, if anything I prefer that my clients train with their mental health and wellness in mind over how much weight they want to lose.
With that in mind, here are my top tips to better wellness.
-
PLENTY OF SLEEP
Sleep is something that is massively underappreciated when it comes to our health and wellbeing. Try to prioritise getting plenty of sleep. It is important for your mood, its mentally easier to make better food choices if you are not tired and is so important for the hormone levels in the body.

DRINK WATER
A lot of people underestimate the importance of hydration when it comes to their health.
Drinking plenty of water really is one of the easiest steps you can take for a healthier body and mind. But it’s surprising how many people still allow themselves to get dehydrated.
Water makes up almost two thirds of our body and it plays a vital role in everything from regulating body temperature, to keeping our skin healthy. It can also help reduce injuries when you’re training because water helps to keep your joints lubricated.
Some of the key benefits to staying well-hydrated include:
- healthier skin
- healthier teeth and bones
- healthier joints
- improved digestion
- reduces fatigue
- increased fat metabolism

HIIT TRAINING
When it comes to exercise, I’m a big fan of high-intensity interval training (HIIT). It’s super effective and a great way of training that combines quick, intense bursts of exercise, where you’re working out as hard as you can, with short periods of recovery. HIIT can be done at home or in any small space and you don’t need any equipment and it’s especially effective for people with a busy schedule.

STAY OFF THE SAD STEP
One of the biggest challenges when it comes to health and fitness is motivation and there’s no bigger motivational killer than scales. I call scales the ‘sad step’, because they will almost always leave you feeling disappointed.
But the truth is, when it comes to hitting your health and fitness goals, the sad step is the worst measure of success you can possibly get. Because no matter how hard you train, or how well you eat, the scales cannot measure some of the most important things when it comes your body, health and wellbeing.
Things the sad step CANNOT measure:
- Your fitness levels
- Your energy levels
- Your strength
- Changes in your body composition
- Your sense of achievement
- Your confidence
- Your happiness
I hear stories all the time from my clients who wake up and weigh themselves every single morning. More often than not, this leads to instant negative feelings and this can set the mood for the rest of the day. It’s massively disheartening and can kill your motivation. This isn’t the way to live and that’s why I encourage all my clients to use progress pictures rather than the sad step to measure their success.

COOK FROM HOME AND PREP LIKE A BOSS
You can’t out train a bad diet, so no matter how hard you workout, you need to fuel your body with lots of good food. One of the key reasons my clients are successful on my app is that they prepare and plan their meals in advance and eat lots of good food. Prepping your meals like a boss and cooking at home with fresh ingredients will help you to fuel your body with the right food and avoid those unhealthy meals and snacks on the go.
