When people think ‘Easter foods’ they think chocolate eggs and sweet snacks – but it doesn’t have to be that way. With approximately 27% of Aussie kids are considered overweight, it’s more important now than ever that we teach our kids positive eating habits.
We know that it can be difficult to encourage healthy eating during Easter, which is why we’ve put together our top 3 Easter ideas that are sure to keep your kids entertained while learning valuable lessons positive food choices.

Easter egg hunt alternatives
One of the most exciting things about Easter is running around the house and garden looking for eggs before someone else finds them! However, this isn’t always the healthiest activity as kids are often left with a mountain of chocolate.
So, keep the excitement and increase the health-factor by swapping the chocolate with healthier alternatives. Some of our favourites are:
- Strawberries dipped in yoghurt with a chocolate drizzle
- Chocolate covered fruit
- Bliss balls
- Homemade dark chocolate bark
Top tip: Pop them into a colourful patty pan to reduce mess and make them easier (or harder) to spot in their hiding place!

Easter-themed fruit baskets
The Easter Bunny delivers his goodies in a basket, and so should you this Easter! Grab all of your favourite fruits, call your kids into the kitchen and get them to help you make some Easter-themed fruit baskets carved from a watermelon!
This is a super fun way for your kids to get their hands messy and involved in the kitchen. Get them smelling, tasting and arranging to increase interest and give them the opportunity to learn vital skills like chopping, mixing, melon-balling and grating.
‘Harvest’ your own carrots and make some carrot goodies!
Bury some Dutch carrots in the garden instead of hiding chocolate and have your kids go on a carrot-hunt to dig them up. This is a fun activity and a great opportunity to teach them how root vegetables grow.
Once all of the carrots have been found, wash them off and make some yummy carrot recipes like:
Your kids will feel accomplished that they’ve helped to make something from ground to plate, and will hopefully forget all about the chocolate!
