STRENGTH THE CORE ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY

When Head Chiropractor Justine Lea gave birth to her third child, she was overjoyed at the arrival of her little bundle of joy. Then, a couple of months later, she was shocked when she realised that her body wasn’t bouncing back as quickly as she had thought. In her 15 years’ as a chiropractor, she had, had extensive experience dealing with patients post-birth recovery, but never thought the doctor would become the patient. Even with her prior knowledge and birth preparation exercises, her third pregnancy took its toll, leaving Justine suffering from a weak core and weak pelvic floor.

She saw many women in her practice devastated by a weakened pelvic floor, weak core and diastasis recti, following childbirth. Diastasis recti is the partial or complete separation of the rectus abdominal muscles, when the body stretches to accommodate a growing baby.

“Diastasis Recti is the postpartum problem that no one prepares you for. So much emphasis is placed on Pelvic Floor health, but I wanted to look at the bigger picture of a women’s core health and pelvic floor. Many doctors said that the only treatments available for stomach separation, urinary incontinence, and LBL resulting from natural childbirth were to go under the knife. But through my research, I discovered patented HIFEM® magnetic field technology that BTL Aesthetics had developed. It is an amazing new technology that treats these dibilating conditions without surgery,” said Justine Lea.

“Our core involves the muscles that sit below our belly button. These are known as the transverses abdominis and rectus abdominis. Lack of tone in the muscles is responsible for the pouch like ‘mum tum’ that is commonly referred to after birth. The key to healing stomach separation is strengthening the core from the inside out. The deepest abdominal muscle is the transverse abdominis muscle and provides support for those muscles that have been stretched. The only solution, is to build this muscle!”

“The Pelvic Floor and lower abdominal Core are the anchor point for our lower spine right up to our neck. Regardless of gym or PT time working on muscle tone and fitness, if these deep muscles that cannot be seen are not functioning, women won’t see the results they work so hard for. Prolonged weakness in these muscles (after birth) are responsible for the onset of many preventable issues commonly experienced in later years. Issues such as lower back pain, neck ache, hip and knee pain. The only technology that I have found that works deep into these muscles is this radical HIFEM® magnetic field technology that works the pelvic floor and core muscles. Burning fat and building muscle and thickening the pelvic floor.”

“Women seem to accept Pelvic floor and abdominal core weakness as a given ‘gift’ associated with childbirth, not realising it can be easily assessed and treated. These muscles are not seen, however, they are responsible for protecting our bladder control, spinal movements, and deep muscle tone that protects our joints and entire spinal structure,” continued Dr Lea.

So this autumn, Dr Justine Lea is opening a chain of 15 ‘clinics in clinics’ called Floor and Core Lab. These clinics will specialize in focussed treatments for the Core and Floor, not just for post-childbirth but also for women looking for better core and pelvic floor strength.

“The two treatments we offer, use this patented HIFEM® technology. EMSCULPT®  strengthens the core, builds the muscles and lessens the abdominal muscles’ gap, making a massive difference to stomach separation. EMSCULPT® technology utilizes patented HIFEM® magnetic field energy and induces approximately 20,000 supramaximal muscle contractions, which cannot be achieved voluntarily, to help target hard-to-tone areas. The treatment results in an average of 44mm reduction in thickness of the subcutaneous abdominal fat layer. As well as a 19% reduction in subcutaneous abdominal fat and a 16% increase in muscle mass

EMSELLA uses HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) technology to stimulate entire pelvic floor muscles to mimic over 11,000 pelvic floor supramaximal contractions per less than 30-minute session. The stimulation leads to regained control over pelvic floor muscles and bladder. The treatment is entirely painless and non-invasive. The patient sits fully clothed in the BTL EMSELLA chair for 28 minutes for six sessions, across three weeks. This treatment requires no surgery, it is completely painless, no downtime, non-invasive and the patient stay fully clothed.

“I have found that HIFEM® magnetic field technology is way forward in non-invasive treatment for the conditions that women always felt they just had to put up with. It is such a revelation! I am speaking from my own experiences as a mother who suffered and a health provider that knows there is a solution. Women don’t need to suffer in silence,” conclude Dr Justine Lea.

Dr. Justine Lea is a Principal Chiropractor and Founder of Core and Floor Labs. She is a certified Applied Kinesiologist, NET (Neuro Emotional Technique) and TBM (Total Body Modification) practitioner. As a mother of three, she found that her body didn’t bounce back as quickly as she thought, post-pregnancy. She wanted to provide a ‘clinic in clinic’ that specialises in the issues that many women face post-childbirth and ageing. These include pelvic floor instability and weakened core strength. To develop an environment for women that helps them achieve their best pain-free, high-performance life, and so, Floor & Core Lab was born.  There are 15 Core and Floor Labs across Australia.
