To celebrate World Egg Day on Friday 9 October and World Porridge Day on Saturday 10 October, Kiddipedia are talking all things breakfast with leading dietitian, Susie Burrell who has been working with Lean Cuisine to develop its first ever frozen breakfast range.

A recent study conducted by Lean Cuisine found that 44.5% of Australians are actually missing out on the nutritional benefits of breakfast, by choosing not to eat breakfast everyday.

Susie says that breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day and ensuring you have a healthy, balanced breakfast that contains protein, carbohydrates and fruit or vegetables is a crucial step in ensuring your body gets the nutrients it needs to get through the day.

“When you skip breakfast your body can react in many different ways, with blood glucose control, appetite management, energy levels and metabolism all potentially impacted when a nutrient rich breakfast is not part of your morning routine,” Susie says.

“Breakfast is absolutely essential for growing children, but parents can often forget about eating their own breakfast when they’re busy getting the family ready for the day and out the door on time.”

As a mother herself Susie is all too familiar with the morning rush, but knows that when breakfast is skipped or forgotten about, the temptation to turn to snacks and other nutritionally poor takeaway options like muffins and pastries is all too easy.

Lean Cuisine’s survey also found 29.2% of the people skipping breakfast regularly, were turning to unhealthy snacks to get through the morning or eating a larger portion at lunch to make up for the missed meal.

Knowing that time can get the better of you in the morning and with a lack of nutritiously balanced and convenient breakfast options on the market, Susie teamed up with Lean Cuisine to make the industry’s first ever frozen food breakfast range in accordance with the Healthy Eating Pyramid.

“The beauty of Lean Cuisine’s breakfast meals is that you can keep them in the freezer either at home or at work, so when time isn’t on your side you don’t need to sacrifice your nutrition.

“Unlike chilled ready-meals, they won’t go off if you don’t eat them in the week and are snap-frozen, making the meal as fresh and tasty as the day it was made.”

So if you find yourself wondering what to have for breakfast this World Porridge Day or World Egg Day why not try one of Susie’s favourites from the range, the Potato Frittata with Hot Smoked Salmon and the Apple Cinnamon Porridge.
