1. Have some daily routines – Some mums find it helpful to have a checklist of what you need to do. Others prepare the key things the night before….. Getting out the school clothes, or making lunch early – its the small things that can help you be in control and feel less overwhelmed and stressed.
2. Be Quiet and Still in the morning (and maybe even in the evening!!). Take 5 minutes – or even 15-30 minutes of quiet time – time for you to just reflect, meditate, pray or organize your thoughts. Grab a drink (hot drink/cold drink) and a journal and head outside or to a quiet spot. Think about some positives about your family and life. You could start with “I am so grateful and thankful that….” and write down three things that come to mind. This enables your mind to truly relax, so you can be fully present. Focus on your breath – Inhale and exhale a few times, smell the fresh air, feel the breeze, listen to the birds, look at the beautiful sky and soak in the quiet.
3. Be clear with your communication You may find that its hard to say no sometimes – remember that you don’t need to do it all. Ask for what you really need and ask for others help sometimes!!. Having routines and pre-planning can help with organising your time, and knowing what you can truly commit to.
4. Don’t get caught up in the Distractions. In today’s busy world it’s easy to feel pressure to be available 24/7. We all need to remember the work/life balance. Remember to give yourself permission to take the entire weekend off of social media and technology. Consider how you can be totally present with your family. Use a basket or a drawer to store phones; Or set a timer for limiting usage. A few small boundaries like this can really reduce your stress levels.
5. Anchor in Family Time. This is the foundation of importance in your family. In the hustle and bustle of life, family time is ultra important to children as well as adults. As humans, we all crave and need affection and human contact. It is through physical interaction, hugs and affirmations that we gain connection – its so important to make time to be together with loved ones. Do a family game night, cook together, exercise together, develop a new game, dress up, ride bikes, do some drawing or go for a walk at the park. Physical activity and sunshine is great for everyone – but remember that when you do things together, you build those relationships at the same time. so its “a little something for everyone!”
6. Rejuvenate friendships. Having some time to connect with friends is essential to your wellbeing. A listening ear. A calming hug. Someone who cares and understands – this helps you with your self-esteem as well as your emotional wellbeing!
7. Rest. Having some down time is important for your body as well as mind. Take a short Nap. Or even “Read a book”.
8. Enjoy Every Moment. We all know that life is precious. Remember – Don’t wait until later to plan that holiday or take more time off work to be with your family. Appreciate the small things…….These are the days to remember.
