Technology has changed the way we parent and we are treading new ground. The game has completely changed over the past decade and one of the things that surprises us most (and scares us too) is internet porn.
30% of all internet traffic is for porn. Now I don’t know about you, but I almost fell off my chair when I heard this. If our children are innocently watching YouTube and clicking through videos, it’s HIGHLY LIKELY that porn will find them. They don’t have to look for it to be exposed to it.
95% of young people have seen porn on the internet by the time they are in their teens, around 15-18 years old. What is more surprising however is that the average age of first exposure is 8-years old. Yes, 8-YEARS-OLD!
This is not a small stat that we can brush under the carpet. It has MASSIVE ramifications for our children and we all need to be aware of how this affects our growing children, our tweens and our teens.
Internet porn is not like a playboy centrefold, it’s highly graphic, highly confrontational and highly violent towards women.
If this is how our children are being educated on sex then the ramifications are huge and we are already starting to see some of the sad outcomes.
If you have tweens or teenagers, you simply MUST watch these interviews.
Share them with your friends and family and start talking to your children from a young age about sex, about respect, about loving yourself and about what consensual sex looks like.
The more of us who are aware of this growing issue, the bigger the change we can make together through education.
