Miracle Babies

Miracle Babies Foundation, Australia’s leading not for profit supporting premature and sick newborns, their families and the hospitals that care for them, has a ground-breaking evidence-based online resource available for families.

In support of our vision for ‘better, healthier outcomes for newborns and their families challenged by prematurity or sickness’ Miracle Babies Foundation developed an online resource called Nurture ‘E’ – The EEE Impact.

Nurture ‘E’ – The EEE Impact is an information hub on the freshly updated Miracle Babies website, providing new and improved evidence, education, and empowerment for families of premature and sick babies, as well as the children themselves as they grow and develop.

In Australia, every year, more than 48,000 newborn babies require the help of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Nursery (SCN), 27,000 of these babies are born premature and sadly, up to 1000 babies will lose their fight for life.

The new Nurture ‘E’ section of the website delivers information on life stages from pregnancy, in hospital, going home, the early years, the preschool years, primary school, high school and adulthood. Each stage provides Evidence, Education and Empowerment for numerous health concerns or risks that have been identified with longer term outcomes for those born premature or sick.

Nurture ‘E’ – The EEE Impact was in development for over 18 months and we are thrilled to be able to share it with our community. The support for improved long-term outcomes is improving, however, it is still a relatively new area for research.

Our work on the Primary School years has been very interesting. It has revealed the vital need for schools and teachers to be more aware of the learning challenges experienced by children who were born premature or sick. One way to help schools identify at risk children would be for them to include a question asking if the child was born premature or sick when collecting medical history and information.” said Kylie Pussell, CEO & CoFounder.

Nurture ‘E’ – The EEE Impact has been created in collaboration with parents and health professionals to provide families with Evidence, Education and Empowerment.

Evidence:

At almost every step along the NICU/ SCN journey, the care each baby receives has been the result of research into the best way to care for a preterm or sick newborn.  The EEE Impact includes access and information on current and relevant evidence-based research so families can be kept updated and informed on treatments and outcomes.

Where possible we have also included information of any current trials and studies families may participate in, to further help improve outcomes.

Education:

We provide families with information and education that is language friendly for parents and carers to help them be the best advocate for their child as they navigate the school years ahead. This information is aimed at helping parents, their extended family, friends, and educational institutions deliver the care and developmental support best needed for each child.

Empowerment:

We empower families with the right knowledge and a direction on how to find out more if they have any concerns for their child. We are here to assist families in being able to confidently advocate within their family and in their community for their family and their child. Here they can find links, suggestions on where to go for more help and connections with other organisations working in these areas.

Continuing to support families through the toughest times.

Since 2005, Miracle Babies Foundation has been passionate in developing and providing vital programs and resources to support and enhance a family’s experience from a threatened pregnancy, hospital journey with a premature or sick newborn, the transition to home and beyond.

Included in this support is our 24 hour NurtureLine, offering emotional support to families through our trained support team, who have each been through a NICU or SCN experience themselves.

Make sure no one goes through this journey alone

Every day in Australia, there are 132 babies born requiring specialised medical care in a NICU or SCN. These babies and families are at their most vulnerable and with the current health situation, this places our families at even greater risk of fear, isolation, anxiety and depression. We need your help to help us continue to provide support and work together to provide a positive impact on our miracle babies and their families. As we adapt to the current situation and develop relevant and current support platforms for all our families, we need your help. Families having a premature or sick baby is not stopping. Our miracle babies and families need our help and we can’t stop either.

Please donate, a small amount each week can go a long way – we all need to believe in miracles! Just $5 each week (the cost of a coffee) would provide 2 more families with vital, emotional support through their hospital journey. We can do this together and make sure that ‘no one has to go through this alone.
