The Wellness Poet

The Wellness Poet

Have you noticed more Joy than Chaos lately or more Chaos than Joy? Perhaps your days are so busy and chaotic you didn’t notice the moments of Joy pop up!

Joy is a common self-help buzz word these days and you will see it and hear it all around you, but are you actually noticing it, feeling it and cherishing it? These are questions I asked myself a few years ago when as a mother of a baby and a young child, suffering with chronic sleep deprivation, I was not an advocate for Joy! I had felt that much was out of my control and my health was really suffering. Joy was a luxury I did not have.  I thought it was a word that didn’t apply to me, in my circumstances.

In a quest to try to overcome my poor health and cherish my days of mothering I became curious about Joy! What the heck is all this fuss about Joy?!

Here’s what I learned:

  • Happiness is temporary and comes and goes with the events in our day or our life. Joy is innate and inside all of us, and it’s only when you are present in the moment, and feel connected to the world around us, that we can experience Joy. We can often overlook Joy because we are waiting for the happy moments.
  • You don’t have to be a Christian to have a sense of wonder and openness about Joy. Living life with a focus on Joy, puts things into a whole new perspective.
  • If you’ve suffered hardships, abuse, grief, loss, trauma, depression, addiction, low self-esteem, then Joy is probably not something you turned to in order to heal your wounds. Surprisingly, I have found that Joy is one of the best healers.
  • If you set an intention to notice and feel Joy, you will have a deeper connection with yourself and the world around you.
  • Getting in touch with your innate Joy will bring you peace and harmony. It will help you to appreciate the wonderous moments in life.
  • Radiating Joy from your heart will impact anyone that comes within three feet of you according to epigenetics, and that’s a pretty special way to go about your day. Even when you are having a less than smooth day yourself, you will have a positive effect on someone else.

Joy shared, is not Joy halved. Joy shared multiplies like a virus and infects people on a cellular level, and that is not only good for you, but all living things around you. Spread the Joy my friends!

Here are 5 simple tips to help you notice and practice living with Joy!

  1. Write down your own definition of Joy, this becomes your line in the sand to which you understand Joy.
  2. Read about Joy. You only have to type the word Joy into your browser and a wealth of information and interesting views about Joy are told in fascinating and eye-opening ways.
  3. When you notice something that you find Joyful, or you feel true Joy, acknowledge it and thank it for being in your life.
  4. Talk to your children about the Joy they bring you.
  5. If something makes you feel Joyous, tell people about it and don’t be afraid to sound corny. Sometimes describing a simple, Joyous moment sounds corny when you say it out loud, but you are reinforcing that moment in your DNA, and you will have no trouble finding that Joy again.

Life is chaotic, days are eventful and can be stressful, but Joy can be an anchor, and you can remind yourself to notice and focus on Joy.  Living life through Joy is an antidote to Chaos and when you find yourself flipping into Chaos finding your way back to Joy assures you a more peaceful, contented and less troubled life.
