Childhood cancer is on the rise in Australia – it’s estimated that around 900 children aged between 0-14 were diagnosed with cancer in Australia in 2020.

The incidence rate of childhood cancer rose by 35 per cent between 1983 and 2014 in Australia and it‘s expected to increase a further seven per cent over the next 20 years.

Camp Quality’s annual fundraiser, Camp In is a fun, national camping event, with an important cause – to raise much needed funds that give life changing support to kids and families at every stage of the cancer experience.

“Unfortunately, cancer rates are on the rise in Australia and not just in adults – more children are developing cancer too,” says Deborah Thomas, CEO of Camp Quality.

“The need to provide relevant services and programs to support kids and families facing cancer is likely to keep on growing.”

So, on June 12, kids, families and some famous faces across the country will soon be pitching tents and rolling out sleeping bags in living rooms, backyards and campsites, and ‘Camping In’ for kids facing cancer.

This year, there is a host of celebrity ambassadors pitching a tent for the cause, including Candice Warner and Jodi Gordon in New South Wales, Snezana Wood in Victoria, Lauren Brant and Charli Robinson in Queensland, Alisa & Lysandra in South Australia, Rebecca Marsh and Rayne Bryant in West Australia and Sarah Glover in Tasmania.

Charli, who was an original member of children’s musical group Hi-5, visited many hospitals during her time at Hi5 where she met many brave families facing the terrible situation of having a child with cancer.

“This cruel time was made so much easier with the support of Camp Quality, bringing moments of light and support, fun and memories when it was needed most. Now as a mother of two gorgeous girls, my heart aches at the thought of what these courageous families are going through,” says Charli.

Former The Block stars Alisa and Lysandra will also be ‘camping in’ on June 12.

“We are so proud to be South Australian ambassadors for Camp Quality. As Mum ourselves, of four boys between us, we see first-hand the importance of fun, playtime and creativity for the daily development of our kids. Camp Quality and their remarkable programs for children facing cancer give families the chance to get away from the daily hardships and make beautiful memories. Just as we make family fun time a priority in our own homes, we will be making the most of this opportunity to support and promote Camp Quality.”

Funds raised from Camp In will support Camp Quality camps which give around 10,000 kids facing cancer the opportunity to come together and reconnect as a family, make positive memories and have a much-needed dose of fun and laughter in a safe environment.

Camp In campers will be treated to a live-streamed evening of virtual entertainment hosted by comedian Nazeem Hussain, and starring singer Casey Donovan, with a host of great prizes to be won, including a $33,000 Cub Camper Camper Trailer.

Ex-Junior MasterChef contestant Vienna Savaris, who was just eleven when diagnosed with a rare form of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma called ALCL, enduring six rounds of intensive chemotherapy in 2018, will also be releasing an exlusive Camp In Pizza recipe, and the camper with the best pizza creation will win an ALDI Pizza Oven!

Registrations are now open for Camp Quality’s Camp In on Saturday 12th June.
