Dressing your baby for sleep can often be a bit of a guessing game, particularly during the colder months when nursery temperatures drop and parents’ anxiety levels skyrocket!

What is the right temperature for my nursery? What is a tog rating?  And the most commonly asked question we receive during winter – ‘What should my baby wear underneath their ergoPouch??’.

A baby’s room should be between 16c and 20c for optimal sleep.  To ensure your baby can regulate their body temperature while they’re asleep we recommend to dress them in natural fibres, such as cotton, bamboo and merino. Likewise, swaddles, sleeping bags and sleepsuits made of soft, natural fibres are perfect for keeping your bub at an even temperature throughout the night and avoid the risk of overheating.

If you choose an appropriate tog-rated swaddle, sleeping bag or suit your baby will not require blankets, which can increase the risk of SIDS.  Wondering what a tog rating is?  Put simply, a tog rating is a measure of warmth – the higher the tog the warmer or thicker the swaddle or sleeping bag.

Still confused?  To take the guesswork out of dressing your baby for sleep we have created these temperature charts to help parents choose the right tog rated swaddle, sleeping bag or suit for your baby’s room and a guide on what baby should wear underneath.
