The rumours and misconceptions about COVID-19 are spreading at a faster rate than the novel virus. We have to be mindful of the misleading rumours during such a critical period of pandemic, since wrong information can lead to undesirable outcomes. Here are some of the misconceptions that have been doing rounds.

Tip 1: Coronavirus doesn’t discriminate on climate

The spread of the disease has nothing to do with weather conditions. The impact of COVID-19 has been more or less the same in the hot, humid climate of India and Singapore as in the cold conditions of Europe. Keep your family protected by taking precautions no matter where you live.

Tip 2: Protect those at risk

High-risk family members need to take additional precautions such as social distancing extremely seriously. Low-risk individuals must be wary of the threat they pose, especially as younger people and children can at times be asymptomatic carriers. For now, visits to grandparents should be replaced with a call or video chat.

Tip 3: Don’t take unnecessary medication

Having family members take general medications will not impact the virus. Drugs like antibiotics can help you fight only bacteria. Coronavirus, being a virus, will remain unaffected. Consuming antibiotics as a precaution is not advisable.

Tip 4: Don’t avoid your favourite Chinese restaurants

Though COVID-19 started in China, it has spread to over 100 countries and it is not because of eating Chinese food. Support your local eatery at home buy getting takeout or delivery.

Tip 5: Pets aren’t the problem

Healthcare professionals have made it clear that no proof has been found so far that pets carry the Coronavirus on their fur and cause spreading of the disease. COVID-19 is spread through human to human transmission so there is no need to leave your pets outside.

Follow the guidelines and precautions set by medical practitioners. Do not fall prey to misleading instructions. Stay safe.
