As a mum, I understand the struggle of preparing for the new year. Every single year, with every single child, it just doesn’t seem to get easier. I have been through it all and today I am bringing you some tips that really worked for me.

By this point you’ve probably gotten sick of your own voice telling your children to get their stuff organised, that being the books that need to be purchased, the stationary required and even ensuring that their homework is done. My first tip is to make the task of preparing for the school year as positive as you can.

After all, most kids are feeling just as much pressure as you are, however, if they begin the school year on a negative it’ll be difficult to turn their outlook around.

When it comes to preparing the books, my one tip would be to ensure that the kids understand the vitality of having the books so that they aren’t behind in class. Now onto the stationary, I know with my children it was the only time I could get them excited. Instead of going for the cheaper or plain items, give your children the choice so that they get excited about using the equipment.

Homework, probably the most overwhelming task. For myself, I find that getting involved worked the best. I attempt to read and help them with homework daily. I encourage them to organise homework sessions with their friends so that homework can become somewhat enjoyable.

Lastly and most importantly, remember that your children need space, school is an experience for them that will teach them a lot, you can try and force them to do things like homework, however, if they feel too much pressure, they may attempt to avoid it.
