These are some games children can play to stimulate their mind.

  • Boardgames really help with cognitive development. There are many types of boardgames children can play such as Monopoly, this teaches children about money, earning a living and buying and selling property.   • Scrabble is also another one. Children learn about words and letters of the alphabet and thinking up words in their mind and it also helps with language. Here is a link for some more information on Scrabble; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrabble
  • Twister is another game. This game helps with colour recognition and body parts and Chess another board game which stimulates the mind in which children strategically have to place pieces around a board and the first person to get all their pieces home wins. These days though children are playing less of these due to the rise in technology such as computers and phones which brings me to the next type of games.

  • Online games. Many of the boardgames can also be played online as well and there are many board games online. There are also a lot of educational games for children to play as well.   • Casual games such as time management games to teach children time management skills. Some examples are; Food Tycoon in which you can manage your own coffee bar and serve customers, Ice-cream bar in which you can manage your own ice-cream bar and Burger Shop in which you run your own burger shop.   • Hidden object games in which children can find hidden objects. Children learn to match objects. Some examples are; Titanic 2012 Mystery in which children have to find Titanic objects and Lamp of Aladdin in which children have to find objects related to Aladdin.   • Social games with other children. There are many games children can play with other children that stimulates their mind and in which they use their imagination. Games such as musical chairs help children with music and learn turn taking skills, to play this game you set up chairs for the children and then you play music. The last child to sit on a chair is eliminated and it keeps on going like this until the last child wins.
  • What’s The time Mr Wolf teaches children about mathematics and counting, how to play Mr Wolf is all the children line up and someone is Mr Wolf.  All the children shout What’s the Time Mr Wolf and Mr Wolf says a certain number. All the children have to take this many steps. At the end when Mr Wolf shouts Dinnertime all the children run and whoever Mr Wolf catches is the next Mr Wolf.
  • Simon Says helps children with cognitive skills. One child plays Simon and issues intructions such as Simon says touch your feet, Simon says touch your nose e.t.c.
