There are plenty of lovely Easter treats to buy, however for mums that are concerned about food additives, it’s really easy to make your own treats at home and you can use whatever quality products you like.

I always make my Easter treats gluten and dairy free for my kids but feel free to go with whatever chocolate is okay for your family to eat. In all of these I used Enjoy Life Mega Chunks because they’re free of the top 8 allergens and I used Hopper 100s & 1000s.

First you need to get out the ingredients you will need so you’re organised once the chocolate is melted. Get your other ingredients, baking paper, containers, moulds etc ready to go. I made all of these things in around 40 minutes so if you have it all out ready to go you’ll be able to whip up whatever you like in no time.

I melt chocolate in a double boiler on the stove. You need to be careful not to get any water in at all or the chocolate will be ruined. If you melt the chocolate in a microwave, make sure you only do it on 50% power and in small bursts like 30 seconds up to a minute.

This is how I made everything:

1 . Use a bag of additive free marshmallows and dip them in the melted chocolate to about a third of the way down. Gently shake off any excess and then roll in 100s & 1000s. I put them on a tray in the fridge with the chocolate side up and once they were set I gently pushed some cake pop sticks into them.

2. Get some chocolate moulds that will make small hunting eggs if you can’t find any that are safe for your kids to have. Pour your chocolate in using a small spoon and make sure they are not overfilled. Once set, pop them out and join together with melted chocolate – I used a silicone pastry brush to spread the melted chocolate on.

3. These flat Easter eggs could be decorated in so many ways! I spread melted chocolate out to about 2 or 3mm thick on a tray lined with baking paper and put it in the fridge to set. When the chocolate was still soft but almost set I used an Easter egg cookie cutter to cut out the shapes. Decorate when fully set. I used a bit of pure icing sugar mixed with water to stick everything on but chocolate would be good too.

4. Rocky road is always a hit and there are so many things you can put in it! I mixed through some mini marshmallows and some chopped up additive free lollies. You can mix anything you like in though such dried fruits, nuts, seeds…….whatever you like

5. Freckles are easy to make at home. Put a small spoonful of melted chocolate on a tray with some baking paper on it. Spread it into a circle and then sprinkle with 100s & 1000s

6. Make some honeycomb chocolate. I simply stirred some Hopper Hokey Pokey through the chocolate and spooned into some silicone moulds. You could also use some crushed honeycomb.
