When the kids are home from school or day care at your ankles begging for snacks day in and day out, it can get a little old and your patience can get tested. Use these snack hacks, by Kids Public Health Nutritionist, Shelley Judge, to keep your kids engaged in their food and save you time through the busy Christmas holidays!

  1. Prep snacks on the weekend so they are easy to grab

Just like a Sunday meal prepping session, spend an hour on a Sunday afternoon or Monday morning chopping up any fruit and veggies, you have for your kids snacks this week and pop them in containers ready to go in the fridge. Add some sliced cheese, yoghurt pouches, crackers, dips to this snack section in the fridge so you always have something easy to grab during the week!

  1. Pack food for the day into their favourite lunchbox!

Just like packing their lunch box for a day at school, you can pack it for home! When they are hungry just grab it out of the fridge and set them up at the table to snack away! My favourite lunchbox is the new Disney x Bbox range with frozen and toy story lunch boxes which are a hit among all kids, but also keep food fresh and separated all day long!

  1. Freeze leftover smoothies into popsicles

There always seems to be leftover smoothies – it’s hard to make that exact amount that you need! So instead of throwing it out or saving it in the fridge for later, pour it into popsicle moulds and freeze it for an easy summer snack!

  1. Set them up to make apple donuts

That’s right get them to prepare their own snack. Kids as young as 2 can start helping out in the kitchen and apple donuts are a great easy snack to get them involved with! Core the apple, and thinly slice it into apples. Then set them up with peanut butter, yoghurt and choc chips to make their own donuts!

  1. Fill a muffin tray with different snacks

Who doesn’t love a smorgous board of snacks, well this muffin tray snack hack is like the kid’s version of a cheese board? It allows for a lot of variety in their snacks and a fun easy way to serve it up! If they don’t finish everything, simply cover it up and pop it in the fridge for later!

  1. Wrap it up with sweet wrap scrolls

Snacks that take just 2mins to prep? The best kind. Build a library or quick easy snacks that you can make in minutes and still be engaging and fun for your kids. These sweet wrap scrolls are a great example of that. Easy to prepare and a great balanced snack for hungry kids!

  1. Get your kids involved making yoghurt dipped fruit skewers

While these snack hack might take a little longer, it is a fun activity to get your kids involved in which results in a yummy summer snack on a hot day! Get them to push their favourite fruits onto a skewer and then dip them in yoghurt before freezing them!
