Coffee lovers unite! In a survey[1] conducted earlier this year by Califia Farms, it was revealed that coffee drinkers would rather give up social media (22%), TV (18%), alcohol (16%) and video games (4%) than their morning cup of joe.
The study also found that one in four would rather go without coffee if their preferred milk isn’t available, with almond milk (39%) and oat milk (34%) being the top choices when it comes to alternative milks. The majority of those surveyed (59%) also reported that their coffee habits were heavily disrupted by the pandemic, with 42% attempting to recreate their go-to coffee orders at home during lockdown, and one in three coffee drinkers even trying their hand at latte art – impressive!
In celebration of International Coffee Day on Friday 1st October here are some professional insider secrets for how to make your best cup of coffee at home from renowned barista, Adrian Duquilla of The Naked Barista:
- Start with the perfect extraction – follow the roaster’s recipe recommendation and then tweak to your personal taste.
- Ensure you’re grinding your beans at their peak – the majority of roasters recommend between a week after roast date until 4-5 weeks. No one wants to taste stale beans.
- Get your milk temperature perfect – no one likes blisters on their tongue so avoid coming in too hot.
- Steam/texture your milk perfectly – it’s gotta look like wet paint not a bubble bath, and you need a quality barista product like Califia Farms plant-based, dairy free Oat Barista Blend.
