One of the most memorable ways I’ve welcomed Santa on Christmas Eve is by creating a “Santa Landing Pad” right in the front yard—or, if you’re up for a challenge, on the roof! A few Christmases ago, my family and I decided to go all out with this idea. We marked out a special landing zone using a string of bright, glowing fairy lights, and added a big, cheerful sign that read, “Santa, Touch Down Here!” To make it even more fun, we sprinkled some glitter for that “magical snow” effect and left pretend reindeer hoof prints leading up to the spot. Let me tell you, the excitement on the kids’ faces was priceless, and it became the highlight of our holiday season.

What I love about this idea is how it brings out everyone’s creativity, no matter their age. It’s an incredibly simple, low-cost project that only requires a bit of imagination and some materials that you probably already have around the house—lights, cardboard, markers, and maybe some glitter if you’re feeling extra festive. There’s something about crafting together that really brings out the holiday spirit. My kids still talk about that Christmas with huge smiles, reminiscing about how Santa had his own special runway.

But the magic didn’t stop there. Our “Santa Landing Pad” ended up being a conversation starter with our neighbors, who loved the playful idea. They’d stop by to check it out, comment on the details, and share their own holiday traditions. It’s amazing how one small idea turned into something that brightened up the whole street. It created a shared sense of community joy, which felt like a rare gift in itself. So, if you’re looking for a way to make this Christmas Eve unforgettable, I highly recommend giving this idea a try. It’s all about bringing people together in the most fun and festive way possible.
