Local New South Wales charity, Cat Protection Society, has revealed the community can now help make their cats purr by recycling their eligible bottles and cans and donating the refunds to the cause through Return and Earn and the myTOMRA App.
“At Cat Protection Society NSW we believe that every cat deserves a loving and responsible home and we are dedicated to reducing the number of stray cats on the streets through our purpose-designed no-kill shelter.
“However providing the proper care and maintenance these cats deserve while we find them their furever home can often be costly. We rely a lot on the community to help us continue doing what we do,” says Kristina Vesk, CEO of Cat Protection Society NSW.
According to Vesk, with the operating costs for Cat Protection Society NSW averaging at approximately $3 million dollars per annum, it was a win-win to sign the charity up to give locals an easy, convenient way to help out.
All 10c refunds donated to the charity go towards funding professional care and advisory staff; veterinary expenses including health checks, desexing and any necessary treatments or surgery; vaccinations; microchips; kitty litter as well as costs to promote services and welfare work plus building and administration costs.
“Not only does this give locals the opportunity to help the planet, it provides a cost effective way for those doing it tough, to still help keep all cats safe and off the streets.”
“The dangers for a cat living on the street are enormous and we encourage all locals to do what they can. In addition to cruelty, these cats face risking disease, injury, cold, hunger, thirst and parasites on a daily basis,” adds Vesk.
New South Wales residents can contribute to Cat Protection Society NSW by donating their 10 cent refunds from all eligible bottles and cans from any Return and Earn machine in NSW using the MyTOMRA app.
All proceeds donated to Cat Protection Society through the app will be donated directly to the cause. To participate, locals can download the MyTOMRA app, select ‘Make Cats Purr’ in the charity lookup and scan the charity’s unique barcode prior to recycling.
