Halloween is officially just around the corner and the spookiest month of the year brings also brings about new challenges for parents as they look to keep kids entertained around the fun-filled holiday in these unfamiliar times.

Fear not, we have NRMA Treasure Island Holiday Resort’s resident kids entertainment expert Ji’s top tips for getting your little ones in the Halloween spirit. Tasked with looking after thousands of kids at their sunny Gold Coast location every year – and yes, he works 364 days a year wrangling little ones – he has endless ideas for even the least creative parent.

To help make this October 31 special for the family and a little easier for you, we’ve put together a list of festive activities for the entire brood to enjoy.

Get Crafty

Get back to the basics of childhood fun with some easy spooky and kooky Halloween crafts that will keep little ones entertained for hours, as well as help deck the house out for Halloween all month long. From collecting empty toilet rolls to dress up as skeletons, creating your own haunted house diorama, decorating a ghoulish mask or even a simple colouring-in sheet, there’s endless a fun to be had when you flex your creative muscles with your little ones.

Pumpkin Carving

Pre-teens and teenagers love to get creative with Jack-O-Lanterns to get into the festivities, simply grab a pumpkin (Jack-O-Lantern or Jap work the best) and work with your kids to make your very own scary or silly pumpkin character. Said to ward away evil spirits, the carved creations will keep kids busy for hours and provide some ghoulish décor for the festivities.

At Home Halloween Party

Get your themed snacks, break out the decorations and the spooky-themed tunes to have a little celebration at home. Have you always missed out on the fancy dress prize? Now may be your chance! Gather the tribe, get dressed up in crazy costumes and source some delicious treats for the at-home entertainment. Whether there’s just two of you or the max party occupancy, kids will love the opportunity to have a boogie and embrace the Halloween atmosphere!

Put on your All Saint’s Eve Apron

Get the family cooking in the kitchen with themed treats, it’s the perfect way to get the kids to disconnect from technology and interact in a playful bonding experience. From zombie cupcakes to witch cookies and ghost cake pops, kids love to get their hands dirty and create their own tasty treats. There are recipes for every level of baker and it gives little ones the opportunity to create something of their own, all while learning a new skill.

Take A Trip

Pack up the family for a weekend of fun for the kids (and relaxation for yourself) by heading to a COVID-safe venue or holiday resort to get your spook on. If you’re truly stumped for Halloween activities, simply hand your kids across to a qualified kids activity specialist like Ji who will be holding scavenger hunts, trick or treating and even a best decorated accommodation competition at Treasure Island on the Gold Coast. These experts will keep the little ones busy for hours while you can have a chance to relax after a long period of home-schooling and work from home.

No matter what you do with the little ones, the most important thing is that you’re spending time together and are ensuring kids have an opportunity to celebrate Halloween in a COVID-safe environment, despite any restrictions this year has introduced.
