The Wellness Poet

The truth is not every day is our best day!  There are just days when you wake up tired, burn-out, fed up and feeling blah! Maybe you feel Meh – an expression of indifference or boredom.

So, what do we do when we have a less than best day, when we feel helter-skelter, driven nuts by laundry, lunch boxes and socks? How do we quickly move the dial from fed up to freed up and centre ourselves when overwhelm sets in and the inbox is overflowing?

How do we move the Meh Dial? Here are my top 5 Tips for quickly moving the Meh Dial!

  1. Ask yourself; What is one positive thing I can do right now? Finding something positive to do shifts the perspective. It may be a household chore that is bugging you, a work issue that you need to solve or an appointment that needs to be made. Once you have done that one positive thing you will feel a sense of achievement and can then move through your day with more optimism.
  2. Take it to the Mat; Stretch & meditate. If you feel tired and overwhelmed stretching and mediation are a great way to clear the cobwebs and reset the body and mind. Having a yoga mat (relax and stretch area) set up permanently in a quiet area of the home gives us somewhere to go when we need a quick break.  You can do this in the office too.  Find a place to create a relaxation island, and encourage people to use it.  5-10 minutes may be all you need to bring you back to feeling calm and centred.
  3. Eat a plant-based meal; Juice, salad, soup. There are many mood boosting foods, particularly plants. Reaching for plants can help your body process toxins, give you more energy and help the production of your happy hormones.
  4. Call or text your BFF; I’m feeling Meh, and I love you! Sometimes it’s nice to have a good vent and then move on. Venting is healthy as long as your BFF is totally on your team and doesn’t see you as dumping and not giving back. It should be a two-way conversation which ends with; “I love you. You are awesome. Keep going!”
  5. Send out good vibes; Give someone a shout-out, send a thank you, do something good for someone else. It’s important to honour your feelings and process your thoughts. It’s also helpful to be mindful of others and understand what we put out; we get back. So, if you want to attract positivity in your life, just start by putting it out there, even if you are not feeling it.

When I’m faced with a “Meh Day”, I realise this is probably the day I need to run through my own top tips.  Taking the focus away from not “feeling it” and just “doing it”.  After I acknowledge my “Meh Day” and run through my 5 tips, my day unfolds with a more ease, and I feel grateful for the positive things in my life.  I try not to wallow in a Meh Day. Not every day can be my best day but I can ensure I give myself the best chance of feeling healthy, happy and calm. After a few years of following these 5 Tips I’m 100% sure that they work and I feel more magic and less meh!
