Christmas time is seen as the time of giving. We celebrate it as ‘the happiest time of the year’. But, have we lost a bit of the childlike joy that comes with Christmas? Are we focusing on the wrong things? Let’s take a look at what makes Christmas magical in the first place. Forget the candy canes for a minute and join me on a journey of gratitude, joy and a slightly different perspective on the Magic of Christmas!
Embrace the Joy of Giving
Giving has to be the foundation of the Christmas season. It is a sharing of more than just gifts. It is an opening up of the heart, an expression of love and generosity. At its core giving is the true essence of Christmas and, really, where all the magic can be found.
Sadly, we have lost a bit of the magic because Christmas has become more about the getting than the giving. But, to really feel the love, we need to make this about the giving. It is about offering something up to the people you love. When you present your gifts this Christmas, make sure to take the time to remember the symbolism behind it. Make time to feel the love!
Spread Kindness
Besides giving to our family and friends, we can take it one step further. We all have the ability to create a little bit of Christmas magic. Simple things like sending cards to those far away or remembering those in need by donating to charities. Even a smile for a stranger sitting alone in a coffee shop can bring magic that you don’t even realize.
Why not write a list of things you can do. A ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ list. Spread love at Christmas by dropping flowers at your local old age home or a bag of lollies for the nurses or police officers that serve your community. There are so many ways to brighten someone’s day, and they don’t need to cost a lot of time or money. Find ways to spread kindness to those around you this Christmas and watch as the ripples of kindness begin to spread!
Keep it Simple
Christmas is a time to focus on our blessings and each other. My motto has always been to keep Christmas simple. That way we don’t get caught up in the details while the joyful moments are slipping away.
Spend less time fussing over decorations and meal planning and more time playing games together and singing Christmas Carols. The table decorations are easily forgotten, but that game of Charades that had you all in stitches will be remembered forever!
Christmas is a Celebration of Life
And, finally, remember that Christmas is a celebration of life. When we get caught up in the shiny lights and stacks of presents we can forget this. Christmas is magic. It is a celebration of the magic of life. It is a celebration of the blessings we have, the love all around us.
When you wake up on Christmas morning, say thank you for the blessing of this life. Thank you for the gift that you have of being with your family. Thank you that the magic of Christmas is there for you to create yourself, from a place of love and gratitude. You have the power to bring back the magic of Christmas. Wishing you a wonderful, blessed and magic filled Christmas!
