So usually my days are pretty standard routine nothing that exciting happens, but this day went a little differently.

Usually, on a weekday the day starts with my partner Lachlan going off to work nice and early around 6.30 am. At that time I already have baby Abel in the bed with me feeding him and sleeping. Then anywhere from 10 mins to 30 mins after Lachlan leaves the girls wake up and come in to tell me it’s morning time to get up Mum, which is just the last thing you wanna hear when you’ve been in and out of sleep half the night.

So I get up, go out, turn the heater on (now that winter is settling in), switch the TV on for them and pop Abel back in his cot and come lay back in bed for another 30mins or so. Sometimes I’m lucky and get an hour on a good day. Then its up to get Abel out and make breakfast for the girls.

Most mornings though I often come out to find them with some type of mess, Isabelle or Savannah has gotten a chair and climbed up to the bench and stole some fruit from the fruit bowl or Belle has grabbed a pen and my diary and drawn in it. There have been a few mornings I have come out to find they have gotten into the cupboard and Belle has stolen the bread and they’ve been eating bread on our couch! Crumbs everywhere.

One morning I came out to find them with a whiteboard marker and Sav had gotten from the top of the microwave and they had drawn all over a takeaway menu (that they had gotten off the fridge) and as well as our couch. RED marker all over the couch and luckily it came out! I don’t mind that they’re eating fruit, its the fact they will grab an apple and only half eat it and then leave it somewhere to go bad, and they do the same with pears or there will be banana peel somewhere going bad because they haven’t put it in the bin. Anyway…

After breakfast we tend to lounge around for a little bit and then get dressed and start our day, this day, however, the two girls were just ferals they didn’t want to listen to anything I said which is pretty standard. They were just running around being silly laughing and giggling there was stuff everywhere because they never put things away.

I was getting frustrated with them because they just wouldn’t stop they couldn’t calm down and I knew someone was gonna get hurt if they kept going. I was really wanting a shower in peace without having to worry about what was going to happen so I ran them a bath and popped them in there whilst and I showered. So we all got clean, got out and dressed then I made a start on the housework, starting with the washing.

I went around and collected our washing baskets. (I find it easier to have a hamper/basket in each bedroom for dirty clothes rather than just one in the laundry.) Got the kids clothes in the machine and turned on, started to walk out and put their baskets back in their rooms. The girls meanwhile have decided to continue with the full-on running around the house and screaming laughing I yet again tell them to stop being silly but hey, when do they ever listen to me!

So as I’m walking out of the laundry I’m watching them ones coming from one side of the corner of the hallway and the other from the other side. Both running, neither looking like they’re gonna stop then BAM they collide. I heard a pop/crack noise as Savannah’s mouth hits Belle’s forehead and they both start crying. Sav’s hand flies to her mouth. I check her out I can see a bit of blood. I’m thinking she has bit her lip and that’s where it’s coming from, but on closer inspection, the blood’s coming from inside her mouth. She’s split the inside above her gum where the gum and lip joins. There’s a lot of blood and a decent size cut. I go into a slight panic whilst grabbing some tissues to clean up the blood. I know if she sees the blood she’s going to freak.

I had organised a friend to come over for a bit and she was due around lunch, which it was already after 12. So I call her to see where she is and tell her what’s happened, she’s not far off and offers to sit with Belle at home while I take Sav to the hospital and obviously have to take Abel with me because of #breastfeedinglife.

Then I called up Lachlan to let him know what’s happened, he calls his boss and says he will meet me there. Now I’m rushing around making sure I have everything I may need because we don’t live close to the hospital anymore, so can’t just run home and grab something. Then I jump in the car to grab my friend from the station, drop her and Belle off at home then off to the hospital.

I have no idea where the hospital actually is but I do know they have been doing upgrading works to it. So of course when I get there, the car’s everywhere and temporary barriers all through the car park. I missed one turn for a car park,  turn into the next one to find that that one isn’t actually to a carpark. It’s for the ambulances, so I have to reverse and turn around, go back out to try to find a park elsewhere. I ended up parking in a no standing zone on the side of the road. There was that many other cars parked on either side of the road in no standing zones so I thought bugger and still  parked.

I got the kids out, it’s raining already as well, but have no idea where I’m going. There’s no bloody signs or anything so I see a lady having a smoke who looks to be wearing scrubs. So I ask her for directions, find the emergency entrance and of course, there’s a nice big line of people waiting, so we stand in line and wait our turn while keeping an eye out for my partner.

Finally, we get called through by the triage nurse as he tries to take a look but Savs who was scared and doesn’t want to open up. So with a baby strapped to my chest, I awkwardly try and get her mouth open for him to have a look and he gets a quick peak and while it’s a decent size cut he doesn’t think they will do anything because of where it is.

Meanwhile, Lachlan arrives at the hospital so we come out and find him then sitting and waiting to see the doctor. Abel starts to get restless and I attempt to find his new teether toy that I brought with me. I can’t remember what I did with it, I had given it to him while we were waiting in line and he had dropped it once but I picked it up and gave it back to him.

Then we were called by the nurse. Now I’m stressed again, he must have dropped it again without me noticing. I’m frantically searching my bag trying to look around the waiting area floor and nothing it’s gone. We get called up to give our details to the reception lady, I ask if anything has been handed up but no, she hasn’t seen anything. I’m starting to think maybe he dropped it in the triage area, she offers for me to go and have a look but I don’t think I will find it cause it was almost the same colour as the floor so slim chances or it could have been kicked under something and I can’t get down to look. So we sit back down to keep waiting.

Abel still not wanting to settle, he’s getting hungry and tired so Lachlan offers to stay with Sav and I take Abel home. So I head back out to the car to leave. Lachlan had told me he had parked behind me but when I got to the cars I see how close behind me he has parked and the person in front is pretty close too. How the hell am I going to get out of here! I put Abel in and start to reverse back and turn as much as I could go then forward and back trying to manoeuvre my car out.

I ended up having to go up onto the nature strip and around the car in front of me to get back onto the road. Get home, feed Abel, and put him down for a nap and wait to hear from Lachlan about Sav. They eventually get home, nothing can be done because of where she has split her lip but it should heal on its own if we just leave it and she is only to eat soft foods.

She is doing fine now and I think and hope that she will be more careful when playing with her sister around corners.
