Let’s all get playful this Easter!
Usually around Easter time, there is lots of chocolate, warm hot cross buns and outings with family and friends. So let’s all take a mini-break, as a family, and sit back and enjoy these simple crafty activities together!
SOME-BUNNY LOVES YOU CARD
These cute personalised cards are great to gift to family friends this festive season.
To make them you will need:
- White Paint
- Pink Paint or texta
- Black Texta
- Coloured paper
Simple paint the palm of your hand, index and ring finger white, then make a handprint on your coloured paper. Your two fingers form the bunny ears and your palm is the face! Add facial features with pink paint and a black marker. Don’t forget to add our punny slogan too, ‘SOME-BUNNY LOVES YOU’.
CRACKING SENSORY BIN
Let’s get festive with a nice calming sensory tray. Fill a tray with rainbow rice, or even just plain white rice, add an egg carton and some plastic eggs from the dollar store. Your little ones can explore the unique texture of raw rice, use the eggs to scoop and pour, make musical shakers with them and so much more! If you would like to make rainbow rice, check out the simple recipe in this free e-book.
EGG-CELLENT ORNAMENTS
To make these egg-cellent ornaments you will need air-dry clay. Air dry clay can be purchased from your local craft store or you can make it using a few simple ingredients (recipe below).
Once you have air-dry clay, roll it out and using a knife (or egg shaped cookie cutter) cut egg shapes out of the clay.
Print a pattern on the eggs, these will form part of the pattern later.
Set them aside to dry out. Air-dry clay can be dried in the oven but to help prevent cracking I leave them on the bench for 48 hours!
Once they are dry, time to get the paint and glitter out to decorate!
Recipe for homemade Air-Dry Clay
– 1 cup of cornflour (cornstarch)
– 2 cups of bi-carb soda (baking soda)
– 1.5 cups of water
1. Stir all ingredients together in a saucepan.
2. Cook over low heat, stirring continuously. The mixture will change from a goop to a mashed potato like consistency, stop cooking when it starts to pull away from the sides of the pot.
3. Remove from the saucepan and cover, allowing it to cool.
4. Once it is cool, roll it out and start making your creations.
EASTER-OID THROW
What does the Easter Bunny eat? Carrots?
Noooooo this Easter Bunny eats easter-oids (asteroids)!
Cut an Easter bunny shape out of cardboard and prop it up against a wall.
Throw balls of aluminium foil, aiming for Easter Bunny’s mouth! If it is a bit easy, take a few steps back and try again
EGG-TRAORDINAIRY ART
For this egg-traordinary art work you will need:
● White paper
● White Crayon
● Water Colours paints
● Ribbon (optional)
Using your white crayon, draw a white egg shape on your white paper.
Add some decorative zig-zags and lines through the middle.
Although it looks like nothing, you have left a waxxy base that the water colours won’t stick to!
Paint the paper with water colours, revealing the magic shape left behind.
Cut out your egg, add a ribbon bow (if desired) and stick on the window so you can capture the light!
Please excuse the punny nature of the titles but, like the activities, why not add a little bit of fun and laughter to our Easter celebrations.
