Today’s interview comes with a disclaimer, on one of the most difficult topics to talk about: that being of unintentional childhood injury. We’ll also discuss the most common childhood injuries in and around the home, their prevention along with the incredible work of Kidsafe.

Today, we are calling on everyone watching and listening to be ‘The One’ to make the change, and help keep our little ones safe and to hep save kids’ lives as Kidsafe Victoria has launched their heartfelt ‘The One’ campaign to raise awareness of child injury in the lead up to National Kidsafe Day. on Tuesday 24th May 2022.

To help talk with us on this topic we welcome our special guest Alex Hamilton, Kidsafe Relationship and Engagement Manager.

Alex has 10 years of experience working with bereaved families in the not for profit space. Alex has travelled nationally and internationally, speaking to audiences to passionately share her own story of courage, resilience and hope, as a bereaved Mum herself.

Alex is Mum to two “rainbow” babies – Shiloh and Bodhi and feels so privileged to work with families to impact change within the community.

We ask Alex questions including:

  1. Is it a common misconception that the most common location where children are injured is at home?
  2. Is it true that preventable injuries are the leading cause of death for Australian children aged 1-14 years and one of the leading causes of hospitalisation?
  3. What are some of the more common hazards in and around the home?
  4. You have a lived experience as a bereaved parent, can you tell us about your loved ones?
  5. For those that may not know everything about Kidsafe – what is the purpose of the organisation?
  6. What is National Kidsafe Day all about?
  7. I believe you have a new campaign this month called ‘The One’. I’ve seen some of the promotions around this on social media. Where did the idea for this campaign come from?
  8. Why did these families get involved?
  9. What can the community do on National Kidsafe Day?
