Autism MATES
At Autism MATES we make autism visible by creating opportunities and educating the community. We focus on empowerment and help develop an individual’s strengths. We strive for acceptance and hold events that put our autistic children front and center to advocate for themselves and their peers. We’re visible, we’re inclusive and we invite you to join us in our vision. Why we do what we do: MENTAL HEALTH Prevention is better than cure. Bullying causes long-term emotional consequences, it’s time for preventative action via education and visibility. SOCIALISATION We all need a MATE. MATES is an acronym for Mates Assisting To Engage Socially; MATES is about fostering social inclusion and acceptance. CELEBRATION We work on a strengths-based model, where we celebrate the individual and help them develop their unique abilities. EMPLOYMENT We provide opportunities for productive employment. We launched our social enterprise “FRECKLY FACES” which produces handmade chocolate freckles, loaded with sprinklings of joy and topped off with the dignity of hope and employment.
