Christmas is fast-approaching and the number of days to finish your Christmas shopping are dwindling. If you’ve found yourself with not long to go until Christmas and still got a gift list as long as your arm, don’t panic, you’re not the only ones. A recent study by RedBalloon found that 25% of Australians shopped with one week to go. Meanwhile, 10% of shoppers did the last-minute dash on the night before, or even day of, Christmas!
However, it was also found that this last-minute shopping can lead to panic buying and purchasing unwanted and uninspired gifts.
The study also uncovered the top 5 most cliché gifts to buy Mum. These were scented candles, perfume, slippers, socks, and chocolates. So, with such little time on our hands, how do we avoid wasting money on buying our loved ones uninspired gifts?
Experience Gifting
The most cliché gifts listed above are all material and impersonal objects that look like a last-minute dash to the nearest department store on Christmas Eve. If time really isn’t on your side, but you want to gift something thoughtful, consider an experience voucher. You could even buy an activity for two, so you get to spend time with your loved one. With everyone always being so busy, time is a precious commodity, so buying something that you can enjoy together is more likely to show them that you really care. 78% of mums in the survey said that they would rather share an experience with their family than a material gift.
Still feeling uninspired on what type of activity to buy? Don’t worry, the study also listed the top experience gifts that Mum would want for Christmas.
